What the public wants to know

Welcome to the FAQ section. We have dedicated this page to answering questions that come our way by our amazing customers and potential customers such as yourself. We are truly grateful to know that you care, first and foremost about your health and wellness and that of your loved ones. It is our shared responsibility to help minimize the impact of pollutants and harmful substances in the air that sadly has had a negative impact on our planet since the industrial revolution and together we need to do our part in fixing it. So thank you for your amazing questions and we will do our best to answer them all.

Below are some common questions we have come across and would like to share the answers with you.

What is Oxygen additive

Oxygen additive is a white inorganic powder made up of 5 minerals that can be mixed with any acrylic paint. Once mixed it can be applied on well prepared walls and within 2 hours after the paint has dried on the wall will begin to purify the air in any size room.

How does the air purification process work?

The air purification process is a photocatalytic process that changes the molecular structure of VOCs upon contact with an oxygenated surface. By taking away Oxygen harmful VOCs become inactive. For airborne bacteria the process is different in that Oxygen ions cut the outer membrane of the microscopic organism and as a result they become neutralized.

What tests are used to verify the high quality of Oxygen?

Oxygen additive has a stringent testing process for the materials that are used and while we recognize that there maybe products on the market manufactured with unreliable material sources we are able to test our material with documentation and validation from reputable international microbiology labs in Canada and the United States. We also have quality control (QC) systems in place to make sure that our standards are maintained in every production cycle. This is done through our XRF (X-ray fluorescence) tests which is a non-destructive analytical technique used to determine the elemental composition of materials. In addition, we also run scanning electron microscope (SEM) tests which is a type of electron microscope that produces images of a sample by scanning the surface with a focused beam of electrons.

Can Oxygen work with any color paint?

While Oxygen additive comes in white powder form, it can be mixed with any water-based acrylic or latex paint, in any color. All that is required is an MBC of 1.5% or 15 grams of Oxygen additive to the liter.

How long does Oxygen infused paint take to dry?

Oxygen infused paints are no different to any regular paint when it comes to application. Once you have gone through the steps of cleaning and sanding a wall, filling gaps and spots with putty and a water based primer you can mix Oxygen to any high quality acrylic paint and apply it on the wall. Apply regular coating once and wait for 2 hours. Then apply again with the Oxygen additive paint as a top coat and wait for another 2 to 3 hours and you are all done. Oxygen will start working immediately thereafter. It’s that simple.

Why should I buy Oxygen, isn’t an air purifier enough?

Traditional methods of air purification, such as air conditioners, air purifiers, HVACs and air ionizers use expensive electrical devices with filters. These filters tend to require cleaning and rely on electrical power. Oxygen neutralizes atmospheric pollutants transforming them into harmless substances, in a natural way, and eliminates all bacteria on the surface, without dispersing them in the environment. You will also be saving money on electrical bills for up to 6 years.

On what surfaces can Oxygen be applied?

Oxygen can mix with any brand of acrylic paint and can be applied to almost all architectural surfaces, whether newly built or already painted. The only real exception is glass.

How long does Oxygen last on the wall surface?

The benefits of Oxygen are long lasting. As long as there is some light and humidity in the air, the benefits of Oxygen will remain active. The mechanical duration of the paint is totally different, because it strictly depends on the substrate and the natural life of the paint. Typically wall paint lasts between 4 to 6 years before a fresh coat is required. Please note that after Oxygenated coating is applied on a wall surface it can not be scratched or rubbed with a hard cloth.

How does Oxygen remove Odor? Isn’t a deodorant enough?

Oxygen reduces odors naturally by dissolving the bonds between odor molecules without deodorants and without the use of electrical or chemical filters. Deodorants only mask bad odors, they do not get rid of them.

Does Oxygen contain environmentally safe material?

Yes, Oxygen is environmentally friendly and safe. The production of Oxygen does not introduce waste into the environment and over 90% of its materials are natural minerals and fully recyclable. Furthermore, Oxygen is a platinum member of the Green Business Bureau and is in the process of obtaining the Cradle-To-Cradle Gold certification, which certifies that Oxygen does not pollute water sources and does not generate waste in the environment.

Can your products be applied to wooden surfaces?

Being a wall based product, we guarantee the best results for application on hard surfaces and dry walls. However, it is possible to apply Oxygen to wooden surfaces so long as it is treated with an acrylic wood primer. Oxygen can also work on Canvas by transforming art in to air purifiers.

Can Oxygen be mixed in large quantities away from the application site and transported?

Yes, you can mix Oxygen additive to any acrylic paint in advance but prior to application on the wall make sure you give it a good mix for 3 to 4 minutes so that the particles are distributed in the paint evenly.

Can Oxygen infused paint on the wall withstand regular cleaning?

We do not recommend regular cleaning of surfaces coated with Oxygen.  If there are stains on the wall we suggest using a moist cloth and gently dabbing on top of the stained area.  Do not rub the walls by any means.

What is the ideal ratio of Oxygen additive to paint?

Oxygen additive comes in 200 gram pouches that can ideally be used for 13 liters of paint. However, in the event that smaller amounts were required for smaller paint projects the ideal ratio is 1.5% additive to 98.5% paint. As Minimum Bacterial Concentration (MBC) we recommend 15 grams of Oxygen powder to every 1 liter of paint.
