When looking at walls in a home or office space the first thing that comes to mind is how these bricks provide us with a sense of security and protection against the elements, right? But very rarely do we look at a wall and think, can they protect us against the intrusion of harmful substances, viruses and bacteria that often enter into the privacy of our homes or workspace without any invitation. These Particle Matters (PMs) are the sum of all solid and liquid particles suspended in air many of which are hazardous. These complex mixtures include both organic and inorganic particles, such as dust, pollen, soot, smoke, bacteria and viruses and they are what Dr. Gary Fuller of Kings college of London calls the “invisible killers” that have a direct and dire impact on our respiratory health. What is of great importance and worth noting is that our respiratory function is also connected to an entire ecosystem in our body that in the event of failure can cause great harm to other vital functions and organs such as our brain and cognitive ability.
